Chose that night a higher watch
Rolling as we ran
Playing as a backup light
Tailing for the man
Highway shift on night patrol
1961
On a bumper of this horse haul rig
with nare a light to run.
Falling soldier right behind
To let the lights unwind
Sudden had epiphiny
from aweful strict to kind.
Cowboy in that pick up seat
Hauled a beaten tow
Elbow to the elements
And a short way left to go
Chose that night a higher watch
Rolling as we ran
Playing as a backup light
Tailing for the man
Ol' boy simply needs to land
Outside our jail tonight
Rather just be tag along
See him reach home right
Once a flame red underpiece
Fabric topped the dome.
Seemed more hydrid caddie truck
And madmans mobile home
Chose that night a higher watch
Rolling as we ran
Playing as a backup light
Tailing for the man
Chose that night a higher watch
Rolling as we ran
Playing as a backup light
Tailing for the man
Goodnight Willie!
